Last week Thursday I left for vacation in Chicago. I didn't take any Mentos with me because I told myself I was going to try and wean myself from Mentos. You see I have been noticing that I have been acting like an addict. I buy cartons of Mentos at the dollar store and hide them in my car, in my work bag, in my purse and under my bed. I eat a carton a day and hide the wrappers in the couch and store them in my work bag and dump them at work so my family will not notice how much of them I am eating. I used to buy 3 cartons (36 rolls) on Sundays to last me the week but invariably I am out of them by Wednesday. I have tried on many occasions to "quit" but again and again I go back.

Today I feel sick from eating too many Mentos. On Monday I bought 2 packs of 4 Mentos. I ate one pack Monday night. I saved one package of 4 rolls for Tuesday but on my ride in to work I ate the entire 4 rolls. At work I needed more so I went to the Cafe on our building and bought 3 rolls. I finished these by 11 AM and had to wait until lunch to get more. I got my sandwich at the Cafe and bought 4 more rolls of Mentos. On my way home I bought another 4 rolls of Mentos. The attendant at the Cafe said he had to buy it by the carton so he will have enough!! I was embarrassed but not enough to stop buying them. I decided instead of going back on Wednesday I went to Costco and bought a carton of 20 rolls and promised that would last me the week. Today, Wednesday, I am totally out of Mentos!! My stomach hurts and is distended. I would forgo food to eat Mentos. I feel like there is no way to live without them.

Today I have decided to find all my stash of Mentos and eat ALL of them because tomorrow I am quitting "cold turkey". I am really going to try this...

  1. Oh goodness. I know this is an old post, but maybe... JUST MAYBE you will get this...

Were you able to stop cold turkey?! I swear I could have written this myself. I buy the 6-packs of Mentos 3 or 4 at a time. I can eat 24 rolls of Mentos in a 3-day time span. Today, I have eaten the most I've ever consumed in one day.... an astonishing EIGHT rolls of Mentos.

I seriously need help. I CRAVE Mentos constantly and would forgo food to have Mentos instead. Also love to chew on ice... right after eating a Mentos mint. YUM!

    3. Damn...I was just checking out at the register, had a coffee taste still got the mentos. Went back the next day as I forgot something so now mentos are there in 2 flavors but 2 get 2 free. 4 packs a day for around a month now. 1 pack left. Not buying anymore. Ate 1 pack as I was shopping today. I know I can't just eat one. So in the rubbish they are. Knew something was up but did not appreciate how addictive these are.

    1. Just to share, I've been addicted to menthos 2013. That was when I was overseas.. started as a usual candy thing.i had never been into candies and sweets all my life coz I came from a diabetic and hypertensive family. Then I started getting one roll at a time. Simply have it anywhere, anytime.at home, work. Menthos had been my food all day. No meals, from day start to dawn,,there was a time I tried to eat a regular meal and the stuffs i wanted before but my palate refused them. Preferred menthos than regular meal. Didn't realize a roll gets into 1 pack, 2 packs, 3 packs. Till I was getting 7 packs a month on my 6th month. My day is not complete without menthos. Munching even I gargled. I was shocked at myself. And I was buying cartons. Good thing my addiction wear off 7 months or so.. didn't do anything. Maybe had enough? Hhh! But after a few months started to bleed.. started moderately till like an open faucet..literally. have to wear adult diapers. Thought it might have been onset of menopause so I just let it be.. then I collapsed. Rushed to the hospital. Myoma. It's not the lump itself coz it's so small but something bout the abdominal wall (forgot the right term). My abdominal wall is so thick and doesn't slim down even when I'm bleeding. On regular period walls should slim down coz uve flushed out unfertized eggs, that is the menstraution. Mine doesn't. Had some medicines to no avail. It affected my work had to come home .Got bilateral hysterectomy dec 2015. Doctor said will only remove the infected area but post operation found out all my reproductive organs had been removed. Doctor said it's cancer prevention. Now I'm ok. The operation had it's side effects as you get older and is working on them now.

  8. I quit cold turkey from eating the mint mentos for almost a year but then started back up again when i did quit i actually quit all processed sugar no candy or sweets.and that helped me for about a year.
I think there something in them cause when i was at my worse i would by the 6 pack and it would be gone within 24hrs. But i lasted almost a week with out it. And recently had 3 rolls. But I'm going to try to go a whole month without them and see where that gets me.
Pray for me I'll be praying for you all as well.

  9. OMG... I can't believe I'm not the only one. I've been trying to figure out if there is something in the Mint Mentos that makes them so addictive. I can munch on them all day long and eat a 6 pack of mint mentos in one sitting. The most I've eaten in one day is 10 (shamed faced), but the thing is I just did not realize I did until I went to grab another roll and was out. When I go on vacation, I have to purchase a package of Mint Mentos from BJs and pack them in my bag so I don't go without. It's the same with the Mint Mentos gum.. I swear I can chew a half bottle of that gum in one day (chew, get mint rush, spit out, chew two more pieces and ooonnnnnnnn). I'm trying to quit cold turkey right now, but I swear I AM FEENING FOR SOME MINT MENTOS........

    1. Get your iron levels checked

      Delete
    2. Agreed! I had severe anemia requiring 2 iron infusions via IV and a blood transfusion. Craving mint like that is PICA and my hematologist was not suprised in the least. My cravings are gone now.

  10. Get your iron levels checked!!! I was hooked on mentos too. I had read that iron deficiency can cause mint cravings but thought it sounded foolish. Last year at this time my dr. sent me to the ER for severe anemia. After about 4 months on strong iron pills my cravings for mentors were almost gone. Now i have mentos about once a month.

  11. Same! I am being treated for severe anemia as well, to include treatment of IV iron infusions and blood transfusions. All mint/mentos cravings are gone.

  12. I'm glad I found this thread and to see that iron deficiency may cause this problem because I literally go through 60 or more mentos a day. I been trying to slow down but not having much luck. I do know that I have a iron deficiency and now that I know it may be what is causing this problem I will focus on taking my iron supplements more regularly! Good luck all.

    1. Mine was severe enough that a supplement wasnt going to phase it. I would look up anemia symptoms and see if it applies to you. It can be very serious if it goes untreated for long periods of time. I have heart damage now, so please take it seriously. Best of luck!

  14. yep, I recently became addicted to the fruit mentos. I've been buying them like crazy. I have a whole roll eaten from leaving the grocery store to before I get home. I was so excited, yesterday they were on sale at the grocery store for 69 cents a roll so I bought as many as I could find at the check stands. It's crazy but true, mentos addiction!!

  15. This is my Safe Space.

I was ill with a norovirus over the weekend, and was craving mints after I stopped vomiting, so as I was staying at my parents, they provided me with some Mint Mentos, 4 rolls from a 5 roll pack.
Before this I honestly cannot remember the last time I ate these.

It's now Wednesday, and after buying 2 more packs myself, I am down to 1 roll left.

I have to kick this habit. It's grabbed me so easily!

After this final roll I am going cold turkey.
    Wish me luck!

  18. Like so many other reviews, I'm addicted, now, I know who eat all my mentos at Dollar General 😆 I am so disappointed when I go there to only buy mentos and all the mint flavors are gone, they're the only flavor I love, I sit at my desk and eat them all day, my taste buds yearn for them all the times and anywhere,at home,at work in my car, etc. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one 😀
